Fosters Poultry Plant in Livingston Votes UFW Out

Workers at the Foster Poultry Farms plant in Livingston have reportedly voted out the UFW according to the Sacramento Bee. In the article, available here, it is reported that the bargaining unit of 1,800 workers had a “lopsided ‘decertification’ vote” and called the vote a “humbling defeat for an organization that has struggled in recent years to maintain membership and shore up its finances.”
The article also addresses issues plaguing the UFW and its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
DIR Launches Web-based COVID-19 Paid Sick Leave Tool

The Department of Industrial Relations (“DIR”) recently released an internet-based navigator tool that provides employers and employees key information and resources regarding the new COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave (“COVID-19 SPSL”) law that went into effect on March 29, 2021 and is retroactive to January 1, 2021. The new internet-based tool allows workers and employers to check to see if they are eligible for COVID-19 SPSL by answering a few short questions online. FAQs regarding COVID-19 SPSL are also posted on the DIR website.
